Challenge
For the last 12 months, social distancing has forced us to find ways to socialise at a distance. Whether it’s Zoom quizzes, Zoom coffees or Zoom birthday parties our interactions have taken place through a screen. Many of the methods we’ve used to stay connected have been digital versions of the things we were used to doing in person... and they just don’t feel the same. Kin + Carta set us the task to create a new digital experience that helps us stay together and connected when miles apart.
Aim and Insight
Lockdown has been tearing millions of couples apart, especially couples forced into long distance relationships by the pandemic, so myself and Maria wanted to design a new experience that isn't just a FaceTime chat to help strengthen these relationships, and allow people to form closer bonds at a distance.

Meet Orbee
- a smart device that allows couples to Hold hands, Miles apart.
With Orbee, you can make time for your partner and share the warmth of your hand with theirs, even if they’re at the other end of the world.
Plan walks, movie nights, and dinner dates using the app, and hold your Orbee to make your partners device glow and radiate heat, letting them know you’re reaching out to them.
You can also view the time you and your partner have spent together using Orbee and share it with friends.
